"Like a philosopher who paints, I observe the world and respond to it through endless plays of line, shape, color and pattern — a language all its own. I ponder the origins of matter, I marvel at nature, and I contemplate timespace. I paint to realize a truer sense of self. For a mindful dance with source energy. Creation. Cosmic consciousness manifest as being."
I am a self-taught, mid-career painter who's been making studio art for more than 25 years. I work in both realms of non-objective expressionism and various forms of realism and illustration. After years of experimentation, exploration and experience, I'm currently acheiving a signature body of hybrid images comprised of both my brands of abstraction and representation, which tie together all of my various interests and sensibilities into one singular expression.
Although painting has always remained my primary focus throughout, I forged many of my early years working as a commercial artist in one form or another. I made signs and silkscreen prints. I worked as a graphic designer and a commercial art director. And I was once an illustrator for a newspaper and the design editor of a magazine before becoming a full-time studio artist in 2007. That is, thanks to a lucrative public art commission that soon led into others over the following years.
From prints to public art, I've done it all. Original self expression is at the core of my being. A personal pursuit of thoughtful communication, influence and visual problem solving — humble acts of genius. My genius. Sensitive, intuitive, intelligent, wise and aware.
I choose to represent myself and market my art directly. I seek to know my collectors. I seek to inspire others. To uplift them. Move them. Reach them. I wish to forge relationships. To be real. Authentic. Unique. Amazing.
Today I live and work in Cedar Rapids, a burgeoning arts and technology hub in my native Iowa with a rich heritage of being home to a number of notable 20th Century artists like Malvina Hoffman, Karl Van Vechten, Grant Wood and Marvin Cone, to name a few. Here I enjoy a free and peaceful life with my spouse and soulmate, Brian, and our beloved Boston Terrier, Chandler.
Loving, compassionate, progressive and prosperous. We're pioneering life anew in this ever-changing, 21st Century paradigm. Chipping away at the old one. Ushing in the new one. Striking a healthy work/life balance. Work/life integration. Dreaming the life, living the dream.
